Interns join The Bridge Project

Harley Galeano Joshua Hill

The Bridge Project welcomes musicians Harley Galeano and Joshua Hill. Harley and Joshua will be assisting Mr. Bacher while playing jazz with the students this term, October- December.

Harley Galeano is a freelance drummer and percussion instructor. He currently studies privately with Frank Derrick as well as in the jazz program at Palm Beach State College under the direction of Dave Gibble. Harley’s musical accomplishments include playing as part of the Palm Beach County All District Concert Band and Palm Beach County All District Jazz Band. Harley is looking forward to sharing his passion for jazz with Bridge Project students and the community.

Joshua Hill, upright bass player, studied music and engineering at the University of Miami. He has performed with Frost Symphony Orchestra at University of Miami in venues such as Adrienne Arsht Center. Joshua currently works as a sound engineer and studies jazz at Palm Beach State College under the direction of Dave Tomasello. Joshua is excited to assist with the Bridge Project and feels it is another great opportunity to play jazz and share his passion.

About The Bridge Project

The Bridge Project was envisioned by founder, Laurie Hansen, who identified a shared mission among three nonprofit 503(c) organizations: Swing & Jazz Preservation Society, Arts Garage, and Palm Beach Band Camps. Their vision is to preserve jazz, our American treasure, through music education.

In cooperation with these groups, Ms. Hansen recruited Mr. Neil Bacher, world-renowned jazz guitarist and teacher (Palm Beach Band Camps) to lead as the mentor and teacher of the group.

The purpose of the program is to enhance jazz education for Palm Beach County middle and high school jazz musicians in partnership with these three nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations-- Swing & Jazz Preservation Society, Arts Garage, Palm Beach Band Camps--offering classes on Saturday afternoons from 11am - 2pm at the Arts Garage.

This group of young musicians wishes to share their love of jazz with the community and cultivate enthusiasm for the art form across generations. For booking information, community partnerships, email thebridgeprojectdelray@gmail.com

We are seeking dedicated young musicians to join us: Students with two years of experience playing jazz; grade level recommendation: grades 8-12, although younger students are welcome if they’ve been playing for at least two years. Must be serious, responsible musicians. INTEREST FORM

Swing & Jazz Preservation Society

A group of us who love swing and jazz music formed the Society in the late 1990’s to preserve swing and jazz through our monthly concerts, and to support the Palm Beach County public schools that have bands and teach children to play this music. The recent addition of “The Bridge Group” adds a more personalized avenue for teaching young musicians and provides them the opportunity to perform as a small ensemble. There has been a steady decrease in music education funding by the state. Funds raised by our organization help support music education in our schools.
